What is confirmed for an FM27 Preview save

Sports Interactive confirms that careers created during the free Preview can continue through the paid Preview and full launch. SEGA support describes Steam and Epic installations updating to the retail version at release; restarting the launcher is its suggested first step when that automatic update has not appeared.

Continuity of a career does not itself grant access to the software. Keep the appropriate purchase or subscription entitlement in view, particularly after the free period. The buying guide compares those routes, while this page concerns the saved career. A save file and the account permission to play it are related but distinct records.

Keep a recoverable original before changing versions

Create a separate backup using the file and storage tools appropriate to your device before opening a valuable career in a different build. Give the backup a clear edition and date label, and keep it separate from the copy used for the next session. This is editorial backup practice, not an FM27 menu path or an official guarantee of reversibility.

After an update, check the loaded career’s identity and date before progressing. If a problem occurs, record the edition, storefront, build and what you attempted. Keep the original file available for support rather than repeatedly overwriting the only copy. Do not assume that saving in a newer build produces a file an older edition can read.

Cross-edition imports and database updates need their own evidence

The official save FAQ found during this review still explicitly answers FM26 questions. Its FM23/FM24-to-FM26 instructions are not proof of an FM24- or FM26-to-FM27 import path. We have not established an edition-specific official import matrix in the sources checked, so no older-edition compatibility promise or guessed import-button walkthrough is added here.

Likewise, a game update and a player-database revision are different events. Follow the official notes for the affected version and check what happens to an existing career instead of assuming that every new transfer or contract is inserted into an old save. The update tracker separates official notes, database evidence and Steam backend records; a changed build number alone establishes none of those career effects.
