Choose the format and squad size first, then draft a connected team rather than a collection of high-profile names. The advice is editorial; the format facts come from the official feature.

The official draft structure
Sports Interactive describes Shuffle Draft as a reworking of the multiplayer draft experience, developed with FIFAe. It supports private or public play with between two and thirty-two participants, with AI managers available to complete a group or provide practice opposition. The format options have their own participant limits, so choose the competition before treating the overall maximum as a rule for every mode.
The published process uses sets of twenty players based on the chosen pool. Managers pick simultaneously and a set moves to the next manager in the following round. This changes the decision from waiting for one shared selection to making a choice from the options currently presented, while keeping the team’s uncovered responsibilities in view.
| Option | Officially described limits |
|---|---|
| Knockout | 2–32 participants |
| Group and knockout | 8, 16 or 32 participants |
| League | 2–20 participants |
| Squad size | 14, 16, 18 or 20 players |
Draft the connections before chasing another luxury pick
With a smaller squad, identify a workable starting structure and the essential cover before spending another selection on a position that is already crowded. A second exciting creator may be less useful than the defender or holding option needed to make the first one effective. That is a planning recommendation, not a guarantee that one formation wins the mode.
Read the pool configuration and the positions actually available in your current set. The official feature allows different pool themes and customisation, so a strategy that assumes every familiar candidate is present can fail before the first match. Reassess the remaining vacancies after each pick and keep an alternative structure in mind if a particular responsibility becomes difficult to cover.
Different pool quality changes the comparison
A candidate’s usefulness depends on the alternatives in this draft, not only on reputation from a long career save. Compare the job they fill and the remaining coverage rather than importing a universal must-pick list.
Use the draft experience without confusing game modes
The official feature says players recover fully between matches in this mode. That changes one part of tournament planning, but it does not remove the need for positional coverage or make a player equally suitable for every responsibility. Keep the rules of the draft separate from assumptions about availability and workload in a single-player career.
A draft can give you an observation of a player in a particular shape, but that is not a complete scouting report or evidence of a transfer fee in another save. Record the mode, pool and tactical context when interpreting what you saw. The formations and effectiveness guides can then help explain the connections you want to improve without pretending a short tournament establishes an unbeatable system.
